Barbarian raids on European provinces of the Byzantine Empire from the end of the reign of Emperor Anastasius I to the reign of Maurice

Celem niniejszej pracy magisterskiej jest próba określenia skali i znaczenia najazdów barbarzyńskich na europejskie prowincje Cesarstwa Bizantyńskiego, począwszy od 517 roku do końca panowania Maurycjusza. Autor zebrał i omówił poszczególne wzmianki źródłowe związane z łupieżczą aktywnością barbarzyńców na Bałkanach i w oparciu o literaturę przedmiotu postara się odpowiedzieć na pytanie, czy na ich podstawie można stworzyć spójny i klarowny obraz sytuacji, jaka panowała na Bałkanach w VI wieku. Ważne będzie podjęcie rozważań na temat tego, czy tematyka barbarzyńskich najazdów na Bałkany znajduje zainteresowanie wśród badaczy tego okresu i jak często jest podejmowana.

The aim of this study is an attempt to define the scale and significance of the barbarian raids on the European provinces of the Byzantine Empire, from AD 517 to the end of the reign of Maurice. The author has collected and discussed source references related to the raiding activity of barbarians in the Balkans and, based on the literature on the subject, will try to answer the question whether it is possible to create a coherent and clear picture of the situation in the Balkans in the 6th century. It will be important to consider whether the subject of the barbarian invasions in the Balkans is of interest to researchers of this period and how often it is undertaken.
