Niniejszy artykuł o Krakowie - o mieście, którego powstanie związane jest z legendą o smoku i o mieście, którego jednym z symboli jest smok/smoki - jest przykładem rozważań z zakresu geografii humanistycznej. Przypomina wielowiekową historię obecności smoków w dziejach Krakowa. Mówi o ich obecności w przestrzeni miasta, a gdy spojrzymy na to zagadnienie szerzej - mówi nam o znaczeniu miejsca, opowiada o kondycji przestrzeni miasta, a także obrazuje sens i wagę lokalnej - tu: miejskiej - tradycji. Wreszcie mówi nam o mieście, w którym przebiega proces poszukiwania sensu koniecznego, aby mieszkańcy znaleźli poczucie bezpieczeństwa i przynależności, a także możliwość kształtowania swojego świata. Smoki są jednym z symboli ikonosfery Krakowa, symbolem rozpoznawalnym i bliskim mieszkańcom i turystom, którzy tu przyjeżdżają, by poznawać i podziwiać miasto. This article talks about Kraków - the city whose origins closely intertwine with the legend about the dragon, who is one of the city`s symbols. This story veers off course to explore the issues of geography of humanities. It takes the readers for a journey through the long history of Kraków, across many centuries, documenting the presence of dragons along the way. The article unveils them in the context of the city and - when we look from a wider perspective - depicts the condition of the city and pictures the sense and the magnitude of its urban history. Finally, it tells the story of a city where the process of searching for the absolute meaning keeps happening, in order for the inhabitants to find a sense of security and a sense of belonging - but also shaping their own worlds. Dragons belong to the iconic domain of Kraków: a symbol recognized and close to the hearts of inhabitants and tourists alike. Those who arrive here to talk, explore and admire the city.
