Modern magical beliefs on the example of neo-pagan religion Wicca. Wicca's image in polish Internet

Celem niniejszej pracy jest przedstawienie współczesnych wierzeń magicznych, funkcjonujących w paradygmacie religii neopogańskiej Wicca. Aspiracją części badawczej jest porównanie przedstawionego obrazu religii z wizerunkiem, jaki kreowany jest w polskim Internecie. W związku z obecną tendencją powrotu do wiary w magię, upowszechniającym się zjawiskiem New Age a także popularyzacją ruchów neopogańskich, zwrócenie uwagi na to zagadnienie wydaje się uzasadnione. Część teoretyczna pracy obejmuje dwa rozdziały. W pierwszym opisano tendencję powrotu do wierzeń magicznych oraz podjęto próbę zdefiniowania najważniejszych terminów związanych z tym zjawiskiem. Następnie przedstawiono historię Wicci wraz z genezą, zwracając uwagę na jej źródła znajdujące się w innych systemach magicznych istniejących na przestrzeni dziejów. W rozdziale drugim przedstawiono główne założenia Wicci, jej filozofię i teologię. Następnie omówiono koncepcje bóstw a także wiccańskich świąt. Na końcu zobrazowano zagadnienie magii i rytuału, ukazując ich komplementarny stosunek. W ostatnim rozdziale zaprezentowano badania nad wizerunkiem Wicci w polskim Internecie. Na początku przedstawiono operacjonalizację badań oraz ich metodykę. Analizie poddano dwie grupy źródeł, strony internetowe oraz społeczność wirtualną na przykładzie forum. Dalej umieszczono zakończenie będące podsumowaniem części teoretycznej i badawczej pracy.

The purpose of the study is to present modern magical beliefs based on the example of modern neo-pagan religion of Wicca. Comparison between real and internet-based image of the religion is the objective of the research. Concentration on this issue seems to be validated, according to contemporary trend of resurgence of magic, disseminating New Age phenomenon and neo-paganism becoming more popular as well. There are two main topics in the theoretical part of this paper. In the first one of them, a common tendency of reversion to magical beliefs is shown. The attempt to define the most significant terms which are connected to this issue is also present. All history and genesis of Wicca, with all important roots in different systems of magic, are presented in this part of the study. Second Chapter contains main attributes of Wicca, philosophy and theology of hers. The wiccan concept of the gods and festivals is shown, and at the end of the chapter, characteristics of magic and ritual, including their complementarity, are presented. There is a research about Wicca’s image, that is based on polish internet, in the last chapter of the study. Description and methodology of the research is shown at the beginning. The analysis is based on two types of sources – web pages and the forum, which is the example of virtual society. At the end of this paper, the epilogue with all conclusions from both, theoretical and research, parts of the study is placed.
