Heroines, phantasmagoria and misogyny in Margaret Atood's novel entitled "The Testaments"

Praca skupia się na temacie feminizmu, fantazmatyczności, mizoginizmu w powieści Margaret Atood pod tytułem „Testamenty". Sięgając do tekstów feministycznych analizuję postaci kobiece występujące w tej narracji, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem aspektu ich opresji i prób wyzwolenia się spod władzy mężczyzn. Skupiam się na Agnes – starszej córce Offred z „Opowieści Podręcznej", wychowanej w Gileadzie oraz Lidii – matce-założycielce tego teokratycznego państwa. Istotnym elementem interpretacji jest historia przewrotu, zamachu na konstytucję i w efekcie zniewolenia Stanów Zjednoczonych przez Synów Jakuba. Część analityczna dotyczy zarówno zachowań mizoginistycznych w powieści, jak również pozycji i sytuacji kobiet w republice.

The research on hand focuses on the themes of feminism, phantasmagoria, and misogyny in Margaret Atood's novel entitled "The Testaments". Drawing on feminist texts, I analyze the female characters featured in this narrative, with a particular focus on the aspect of their oppression and attempts to liberate themselves from male authority. I focus on Agnes – the elder daughter of Offred from "The Handmaid’sTale", who was raised in Gilead, and Lydia – the founding mother of this theocratic state. The thesis argues that the assassination of the Constitution, and enslavement of the United States by the Sons of Jacob are essential parts of the interpretation. The analytical section addresses both the misogynistic behavior in the novel as well as the position and situation of women in the republic.
