Egzystencjalizm i jego wpływ na wybrane dzieła Teatru absurdu

Głównym celem mojej pracy jest zbadanie wpływu egzystencjalizmu na wybrane utwory, zaliczane do Teatru Absurdu. W pierwszym rozdziale skupiam się na przedstawieniu definicji tego filozoficznego i literackiego nurtu oraz zaprezentowaniu jego głównych idei, przedstawicieli i wpływu, jaki wywiera na innych autorach. Celem dwóch następnych rozdziałów jest interpretacja sztuki "Końcówka" Samuela Becketta oraz "Urodzin Stanleya" Harolda Pintera, które należą do twórczości Teatru Absurdu, a także wykazaniu, że egzystencjalizm wpłynął na tych dwóch dramaturgów. Staram się pokazać, jak mocno Beckett podkreśla brak akceptacji rzeczywistości, która nie pomaga w znalezieniu prawdziwego szczęścia. Heroiczne znoszenie bezzensu życia przedstawione zostaje w złym świetle. W ostatnim rozdziale analizuję to, jak Harold Pinter przeciwstawia się idei realizmu i niszczy ją poprzez udowodnienie, że to absurdalna rzeczywistość jest jedynym dobrym wyborem. Moja analiza tych dwóch utworów jest głównie oparta ta zachowaniach, relacjach i uczuciach bohaterów. W końcowej części pracy skupiam się na pokazaniu głównych różnić oraz podobieństw, które dotyczą stosunku autorów do tematu.

The main purpose of my thesis is to investigate the influence of Existentialism on the selected plays of the Theatre of the Absurd. In the first chapter I focus on providing the definition of this philosophical and literary movement and presenting its main ideas, representatives and influence on the other authors. The aim of the two next chapters is to interpret two famous plays The Endgame by Samuel Beckett and The Birthday party by Harold Pinter, which belong to the output of The Theatre of The Absurd, and to show how these two playwrights were influenced by Existentialism. I analyze how strongly Beckett criticizes the existential idea of endurance and tries to persuade the readers that accepting the senseless reality does not help to find happiness. In the last chapter I analyse how Harold Pinter confronts the idea of realism and destroys it by proving that the absurd reality is the only good option to choose. My analyses of these two plays are mainly based on the characters' behaviour, relationships and feelings. At the end of my thesis, the main differences and similarities of the authors’ approaches are compared.
