Abstract in English
The article discusses the presumed functions of the provincial roman mortarium discovered in the ‘princely’ grave in Poprad-Matejovce. The vessel may have served as a container for some unspecified food, as a component of a feast accompanying a funeral ceremony, or it may have been used as a lamp. in both cases, the strong influence of Roman culture on the population of the southern zone of Barbaricum at the end of antiquity is eviden.
