Treatment methods of malignant melanoma

The morbidity of malignant melanoma is increasing every year. Despite of many treatment attempts, this type of cancer still remains incurable at diffuse stage. Present thesis shows number of treatment methods, being both the part of routine diagnostic-therapeutic treatment and remaining at early stages of clinical trials. This thesis focuses on methods used on a large scale in clinical practice, starting with surgery, through radiotherapy and chemotherapy, finishing with therapies not used routinely, like immunotherapy, biochemotherapy or methods directed on a specific cell target. The thesis includes theoretical basis of used methods. Moreover, the author focused on the treatment results quoting the outcomes of tests that have been made in the space of years.

Zachorowalność na czerniaka złośliwego systematycznie wzrasta. Nowotwór ten mimo wieloletnich prób klinicznych nadal pozostaje chorobą nieuleczalną w stanie uogólnienia. W niniejszej pracy uwzględniono szereg metod, zarówno będących częścią rutynowego postępowania diagnostyczno-terapeutycznego, jak i również pozostających we wczesnych fazach badań klinicznych. W pracy omówiono metody szeroko stosowane w praktyce klinicznej, począwszy od chirurgii poprzez radioterapię, chemioterapię skończywszy na terapiach nie stosowanych rutynowo, takich jak immunoterapia, biochemioterapia czy też metody ukierunkowane na konkretny komórkowy cel. Praca zawiera podstawy teoretyczne stosowanych metod. Ponadto autor skupił się na rezultatach leczenia przytaczając wyniki badań przeprowadzonych na przestrzeni lat.
