Public Transportation in Rural Areas: Evaluation of Perceived and Potential Mobility on the example of Mikołajki and Ruciane-Nida Municipalities

Pojęcie mobilności jest jednym z kluczowych problemów podejmowanych przez geografię transportu i komunikacji, które odnosi się do możliwości przemieszczania się osoby z uwzględnieniem otaczającego systemu transportowego i wielu czynników ludzkich. Niniejsza praca podejmuje temat mobilności mieszkańców obszarów wiejskich na przykładzie gmin Mikołajki i Ruciane-Nida w województwie warmińsko-mazurskim w kontekście publicznego transportu zbiorowego z rozróżnieniem na mobilność postrzeganą i potencjalną. Celem badania jest ocena mobilności mieszkańców wsi obydwu gmin na z użyciem transportu zbiorowego na podstawie porównania mobilności potencjalnej i postrzeganej z uwzględnieniem czynników przyrodniczych, osadniczo-demograficznych oraz organizacyjnych. W pracy przedstawiono analizę dostępu do sieci transportu zbiorowego, sposobów podróży, wybieranych środków transportu i przyczyn dokonywanych wyborów transportowych oraz problemów związanych z wykluczeniem transportowym. Dodatkowo zbadano percepcję mieszkańców na temat dostępności i jakości transportu, uwzględniając różnice przestrzenne oraz stan infrastruktury przystankowej. Badanie obejmowały ankiety przeprowadzone wśród mieszkańców, analizę danych przestrzennych i ocenę infrastruktury i dostępu do informacji, co pozwoliło na ewaluację mobilności mieszkańców obszarów wiejskich obydwu gmin za pośrednictwem transportu zbiorowego.

The concept of mobility is one of the key problems undertaken in the field of geography of transportation and communication that refers to the ability of a person to move considering the surrounding transport system and many human factors. This thesis addresses mobility of residents of the rural municipalities in Mikołajki and Ruciane-Nida in Warmian-Mazurian Voivodeship and distinguishes between perceived and potential mobility in the context of public transportation. The aim of the study is to evaluate the mobility of rural residents of both municipalities through comparison of perceived and potential mobility considering natural, demographic, and organizational factors. The thesis presents an analysis of access to the public transportation network, ways of travel, chosen modes of transport and reasons behind transport-related decisions as well as issues related to transportation exclusion. Additionally, it examines residents' perceptions of the availability and quality of transportation, considering spatial differences and the condition of bus stop infrastructure. The research included surveys conducted among residents, analysis of geostatistical data, and evaluation of infrastructure, providing a comprehensive assessment of the transportation system in these municipalities.
