W swej pracy na temat „Obrazu śmierci w średniowieczu” posłużyłam się przykładami literackimi jak również jakościową analizą ikonografii, która stanowiła ważną jej część. Zagadnienie śmierci potraktowałam jako klucz pozwalający poznać specyfikę średniowiecza. Wytwory piśmiennictwa oraz przedstawienia obrazowe pozwoliły mi także wykazać jak w dobie wieków średnich realizowana była idea vanitas, która z kręgiem ikonografii średniowiecznej była spleciona w sposób najściślejszy. I tak w niniejszym tekście prześledziłam najpopularniejsze motywy ukazywania śmierci. Poczynając od triumfu śmierci, danse macabre, poprzez ars bene moriendi,a na pytaniu ubi sunt...? kończąc.

In my dissertation which aims at presenting the image of death in the Middle Ages I used literary examples as well as qualitative analysis of iconography which constitutes its significant part. I treated the issue of death as the key allowing to recognize the specificity of the Middle Ages. The examples of writing as well as painted representations allowed me also to present how the idea of vanitas, inseparably connected with the medieval iconography, was realized in the Middle Ages. In this work I followed through the most popular motives of depicting death, starting with „the triumph of death” and danse macabre, through ars bene moriendi and concluding with the question ubi sunt...?
