Image of Józef Piłsudski in the poetry of the interwar period based on the example of Kazimierz Wierzyński's "Tragic Freedom"

Artykuł poświęcony jest analizie sposobu przedstawienia Józefa Piłsudskiego w tomie poezji Kazimierza Wierzyńskiego "Wolność tragiczna". Punkt wyjścia stanowi wskazanie na ideowe związki poety z Marszałkiem. Przez porównanie z innymi tekstami poświęconymi Piłsudskiemu (tom "Imię wielkości" Jana Brzechwy) oraz powołanie się na teksty Brunona Schulza autor próbuje udowodnić, iż Wierzyński był najwłaściwszą osobą do poetyckiego sportretowania Marszałka. Pokazuje również zależności intertekstualne oraz podobieństwa i różnice między innymi wierszami opisującymi Pierwszego Marszałka Polski. Ważny element wywodu stanowi ukazanie powiązań tomu z polską tradycją romantyczną. Artykuł udowadnia, że kreacja wodza w tekstach skamandryty nosi silne znamiona romantycznych idei i bezpośrednio z nich wyrasta. Porusza także problem recepcji twórczości poety w latach powojennych.

The subject of this article is an analysis of the ways in which Józef Piłsudski is presented in the volume of poetry by Kazimierz Wierzyński titled "Wolność tragiczna"/"Tragic Freedom". It starts by indicating the ideological connections between the poet and the marshal. This is then compared with other texts devoted to Piłsudski (including the volume "Imię wielkości"/"The Name of Greatness" by Jan Brzechwa) and with reference to the texts of Bruno Schulz, while the author attempts to prove that Wierzyński was the most appropriate poet for the portrayal of the marshal. The intertextual connections are shown, as well as the similarities and differences among other the poems describing the First Marshal of Poland. Another important element of the argument is the link between the volume and the Polish tradition of romanticism - the character/figure of the marshal in the texts of the Skamandrites bears strong signs of romantic ideas and is developed directly out of these. The problem of the reception of the poet's work in the post-war years is also addressed.
