The national and ethnic distinctiveness of the Caucasus peoples

Ocenia się, że w przestrzeni kaukaskiej o powierzchni 440 000 km2 mieszka ponad 100 narodowości i grup etnicznych. Ich historyczny los, w tym polityka narodowa, stworzyły specyficzny sposób ich pojawiania się, funkcjonowania postaw społeczno-politycznych, celów i aspiracji. Cechą odróżniającą narodowości i grupy etniczne Kaukazu jest silny związek z przestrzenią, z której pochodzą. The theme of this work is the problem that contemporary Caucasus is facing, namely the disappearance of separateness and the attempt to impose global standards by the states in the area where it is located. In recognition of the phenomena and processes of national and ethnic life, the Caucasus is a specific reality. It is estimated that there are over 100 nationalities and ethnic groups living in the Caucasian area of 440,000 km2. Their historical fate, including national politics, created a specific way of their appearance, the functioning of socio-political attitudes, goals and aspirations. A distinctive feature of the nationalities and ethnic groups of the Caucasus is a strong relationship with the space from which they originate. Because of their numerical strength, they did not tend to acquire and acquire new spaces, but in reality they were displaced and dispersed. These phenomena appeared mainly in the twentieth century during the so-called Soviet ethnic policy. The Caucasus is still a place of constant misunderstandings, contradictions and conflicts. The processes of ethnic change in the Caucasus are the biggest challenge of political life. The work aims to show all these issues and highlight the problem faced by today's inhabitants of this area.
