Postępowanie z pacjentem z problemem alkoholowym jest częstym wyzwaniem dla zespołów ratownictwa medycznego. Nietrzeźwość pacjenta nie stanowi problemu jedynie we współpracy i komunikacji z personelem medycznym, ale często może utajać faktyczny stan pacjenta i objawy choroby. Nadużywanie alkoholu wiąże ze sobą szereg zaburzeń ze stron wszystkich układów organizmu człowieka. Nadmierne spożywanie alkoholu prowadzi również do zaburzeń psychicznych. Jednym z częściej występujących i noszących za sobą duże zagrożenie dla życia pacjenta jest majaczenie alkoholowe. Jest to najgroźniejszy stan alkoholowego zespołu abstynencyjnego, pojawiający się u osoby uzależnionej od napojów alkoholowych wskutek gwałtownego odstawienia alkoholu bądź zmniejszenia jego dawki, po wcześniejszym przebywaniu w ciągu alkoholowym. Charakterystycznymi objawami delirium tremens jest pobudzenie psychoruchowe, niepokój, omamy oraz napady drgawkowe, które stanowią stan zagrożenia życia. Poznanie przyczyn i pierwszych oznak delirium tremens pozwoli na szybszą diagnozę pacjenta oraz wdrożenie adekwatnych procedur medycznych, które zwiększą szanse na poprawę jego stanu zdrowia.

Managing a patient with an alcohol problem is a common challenge for emergency medical teams. Intoxication of a patient is not only a problem of cooperation and communication with medical staff, but can often obscure the actual condition of the patient and the symptoms of the disease. Alcohol abuse is associated with a number of disorders of all systems of the human body. Excessive alcohol consumption also leads to mental disorders. One of the most common and life-threatening mental disorders is delirium. It is the most dangerous state of alcohol abstinence syndrome that occurs in a person addicted to alcoholic beverages as a result of abrupt withdrawal from alcohol after a previous alcohol dependence. The characteristic symptoms of delirium tremens are agitation, restlessness, hallucinations and life-threatening seizures. Understanding the causes and first signs of alcohol delirium will allow for faster diagnosis of the patient and implementation of appropriate medical procedures that will increase the chances of improving his health.
