The Sejm of 1646 : comments on the parliamentary procedure

The Sejm of year 1646 was one of the most difficult during the reign of king Władysław IV, especially due to the argument that took place between the political forces over the monarch's resignation from the war against the Ottoman Porte. Due to the fact that this problem had been presented in the historiography, the purpose of this article was to present the Sejm as an institution. King's attitude, disputes over the issue of Trubczewsk and the activity of dissidents at the end of the Sejm's session led to the parliamentary obstruction. It was particularly disturbed by deputies having the support of important magnates, the passivitas state introduced by them could be broken only by agreeing to their demands. During the Sejm, one of the deputies also left the chamber once, but the remaining deputies showed concern for maintaining the parliamentary procedure. The deputies tried to deal with the growing problems by convening the various committees.
