Effects of mood on inhibition

Celem eksperymentu było zbadanie wpływu nastroju na procesy hamowania, pełniące jedną z podstawowych funkcji kontroli poznawczej. Osoby badane wprowadzano w pozytywny, negatywny lub neutralny nastrój poprzez procedurę przywoływania wspomnień i słuchanie utworów muzyki klasycznej. Nie rozstrzygając czy hamowanie stanowi jeden czy wiele mechanizmów, do jego pomiaru wykorzystano trzy zadania: zadanie stop sygnał, test flankerów i zadanie antysakkadowe. Zakładano usprawniający wpływ pozytywnego nastroju i upośledzający wpływ negatywnego nastroju na procesy hamowania. Spodziewano się zwiększenia tych efektów w trudniejszym warunku zadań. Uzyskane wyniki nie potwierdziły hipotez. Brak interakcji wyjaśniany jest na podłożu teoretycznym i metodologicznym.

The goal of this experiment was investigation of the effect that mood has on inhibition being one of main cognitive control functions. Positive, negative or neutral mood were induced in participants using memory recall procedure and by listening to classical music. Without distinction whether inhibition is a single phenomenon or it consists from multiple constructs it was measured by three tasks: stop-signal task, flanker test and antisaccade task. Enhancing effect of positive mood and decreasing effect of negative mood on inhibition were predicted. It was expected that the effects will be magnified by more difficult tasks. Results did not confirm those hypotheses. Lack of interaction is explained on theoretical and methodological grounds
