The role and position of women in the police force after 1990.

W niniejszej pracy przedstawiono ewolucję struktur Policji w Polsce od 1990 roku oraz omówiono rolę i pozycję kobiet - funkcjonariuszy, jak i stale obecne kontrowersje wokół pełnienia służby w tej formacji przez kobiety. W trzech rozdziałach ukazano kulisy powstania Policji Państwowej w odniesieniu do pozycji Milicji Obywatelskiej w Polskiej Republice Ludowej, a także ewolucję tych struktur w kontekście ówczesnych przemian ustrojowych w kraju. Scharakteryzowano funkcjonowanie polskiej Policji w kontekście wstąpienia Polski do Unii Europejskiej. Dokonano charakterystyki służby kobiet w Policji. Omówiono ich zakres obowiązków i wyzwań, którym kobiety muszą sprostać oraz wymieniono szeroki wachlarz funkcji i stanowisk sprawowanych przez kobiety-funkcjonariuszy. Zwrócono także uwagę na postrzeganie kobiet pracujących w Policji przez ogół społeczeństwa, jak i przez współpracowników. Opisano korzyści płynące ze zwiększania liczby policjantek, a także poruszono tematy budzące społeczne kontrowersje wokół ich pracy w Policji z uwzględnieniem aspektów takich jak macierzyństwo, dowódcze stanowiska piastowane przez kobiety - funkcjonariuszy oraz aspekt fizyczności kobiet w służbie. Pomijając stereotypy, nie ma istotnych różnic między mężczyznami i kobietami. Kobiety mają równe prawa i kompetencje, lecz nie zawsze równe szanse.

In the article below the evolution of the police structure in Poland since 1990 is presented, as well as the position of female officers and constant controversies surrounding the service of women in this formation. In three chapters the background of the formation of the National Police in relation to the Citizen Militia is shown, and the evolution of these structure in the context of the changes in the political system of the country. The functioning of the Polish Police force is characterized in the context of Poland entering the European Union. The profile of women serving in the Police force is shown. The scope of duties and challenges that women undergo are described and a wide range of functions and positions held by female officers are mentioned. the article also brings attention to how female officers are perceived by society as well as by co-workers. Benefits arising from an increasing number of female officers are described. However, the article also mentions topics that are socially controversial regarding women’s serving in the Police force, such as maternity, women holding supervisory positions and physical aspects of women in the Police force. Not considering stereotypes, there are no significant differences between men and women. Women have equal rights and competencies, however, they do not always have equal opportunities.
