Głównym celem pracy jest usytuowanie twórczości Ruggero Leoncavallo w kontekście włoskiego weryzmu.Esej podzielony jest na trzy rozdziały. W pierwszym koncentruję się na zjawisku, jakim jest weryzm w kulturze włoskiej. Próbuję wyodrębnić źródła tego kierunku, a także odnieść się do najważniejszych jego reprezentantów na polu literatury, malarstwa i muzyki.Rozdział drugi jest w całości poświęcony najbardziej znaczącej operze Leoncavallo, jaką są niewątpliwie Pajace. Na początku koncentruję się na aspekcie historycznym tej opery, a następnie krótko streszczam jej fabułę. Druga faza rozdziału ma za cel ukazać Pajace jako emblematyczną operę werystyczną.Tematyka ostatniego rozdziału koncentruje się wokół dwóch innych oper tego kompozytora; są to Cyganeria i Zaza, co prawda mniej znane, jednak nie mniej ważne, jeśli chodzi o obecność cech poetyki weryzmu w operach włoskich w XIX wieku.

The main purpose of the essay is situating the Ruggero Leoncavallo’s work in the context of Italian ‘verismo’.The essay consists of three chapters. The first chapter is related to the phenomenon of the ‘verismo’ in Italian culture. There are identified the sources of this genre and are also made the references to the most outstanding representatives of ‘verismo’ in literature, painting and music.The second chapter is dedicated entirely to the most important opera by Ruggero Leoncavallo, Pagliacci. At first I present the historical aspect of this opera and a brief summary of the plot. The second part of the chapter is intended to show Pagliacci as an emblematic veristic opera.The last chapter is constructed around the other two operas by Leoncavallo, La Bohѐme and Zaza, less known, but no less important regarding to the presence of the veristic features in Italian operas in the 19th century.

L’obiettivo principale della tesina ѐ di sistemare l’opera di Ruggero Leoncavallo nel contesto del verismo italiano.La tesina ѐ composta di tre capitoli. Il primo ha per oggetto il fenomeno del verismo nella cultura italiana. Vengono individuate le fonti di questa corrente e si fa riferimento ai rappresentanti più importanti del verismo nei campi di letteratura, di pittura e di musica. Il secondo capitolo ѐ dedicato interamente all’opera più significativa di Ruggero Leoncavallo, Pagliacci. All’inizio presento l’aspetto storico di questa opera, passando in seguito a un breve riassunto della trama. La seconda fase del capitolo ha per lo scopo far vedere Pagliacci come un’emblematica opera verista. L’ultimo capitolo ѐ costruito attorno alle altre due opere di Leoncavallo, La Bohѐme e Zaza, meno conosciute, pero non meno importanti per quanto riguarda la presenza della poetica verista nell’opera italiana del XIX secolo.
