Przekład gry słów w serialu „Jak poznałem waszą matkę”

Niniejsza praca ma na celu analizę przekładu gry słów w serialu Jak poznałem waszą matkę. Praca składa się z trzech rozdziałów. Rozdział pierwszy odnosi się do tematyki przekładu audiowizualnego i prezentuje podstawowe aspekty związane z tą dziedziną translatoryki. W drugim rozdziale omówiony jest przekładu humoru co stanowi wprowadzenie to tematyki tłumaczenia gier słownych. Następnie poruszona jest kwestia nazewnictwa, konstrukcji i klasyfikacji gier słownych. Drugi rozdział traktuje o rzekomej nieprzekładalności gry słów oraz prezentuje rozwiązania tłumaczeniowe zaproponowane przez Delebastitę (2004). Również w tym rozdziale wprowadzone są kryteria użyte w późniejszej analizie. Ostatni rozdział zawiera analizę dwóch typów tłumaczeń serialu Jak poznałem waszą matkę: wersji lektorskiej i amatorskich napisów. Analiza poprzedzona jest zdefiniowaniem komedii sytuacyjnej, krótką informacją dotyczącą serialu Jak poznałem waszą matkę oraz nakreśleniem głównego wątku. Wprowadzenie do analizy uzasadnia uwzględnienie w niej gier słownych dotyczących bezpośrednio postaci Barney’a Stinsona. Część analityczna składa się z czterdziestu trzech fragmentów zawierających czterdzieści pięć przykładów gry słów. Fragmenty te zestawione są z wersją lektorską stworzoną dla kanału Comedy Central i z amatorskimi napisami dostępnymi w Internecie. Analiza ma na celu zbadanie poziomu zachowania gry słów, jej formy i znaczenia w obydwu proponowanych tłumaczeniach. Następnie zaprezentowane są główne wyniki analizy dotyczące proporcji zastosowania technik tworzenia gier słownych oraz poziomu ich zachowania w analizowanych przekładach.

The purpose of this thesis is to analyse wordplay translation in How I Met Your Mother TV Series. The project consists of three main chapters. The first chapter presents the definition of the term audiovisual translation (AVT) and discusses fundamental aspects related to this discipline. The second chapter discusses humour rendering as an introduction to the topic of wordplay translation. Following the question of humour, the issues of wordplay nomenclature, construction as well as its classification are addressed. Also, the question of pun untranslatability and possible ways of wordplay translation presented by Delebastita (2004) are discussed. This chapter introduces the criteria for the analysis. The final chapter presents an analysis of the instances of professional and amateur translation of wordplay in How I Met Your Mother TV series. The definition of a sitcom, short information concerning the series How I Met Your Mother and the justification for the choice of instances of wordplay concerning Barney Stinson’s character are provided. The following section is the analytical part which consists of forty three extracts containing forty five instances of wordplay, the professional translation provided for the Comedy Central channel and amateur subtitles published on the Internet. The investigation aims at assessing the level of the retention of the form and the meaning of the source text wordplay in the translations proposed. The analysis is followed by the presentation of the main findings of the research concerning the proportion of the applied techniques of wordplay creation and the level of retention of wordplay in both types of translation chosen for the study.
