Bilingualism and historical linguistic minorities in Trentino-Alto Adige

Niniejsza praca zajmuje się sytuacją językową w Trydencie-Górnej Adydze, skupiając się na dwujęzyczności i historycznych mniejszościach językowych tam obecnych. Jej głównym celem jest dociec czy mieszkańcy tego regionu rzeczywiście są dwujęzyczni i, jeśli są, jakich języków używają w jakich kontekstach.Na początku analizowane są niektóre aspekty związane z dwujęzycznością, następnie zostają omówione mniejszości językowe obecne we Włoszech oraz ich prawa. Później opisana jest sytuacja językowa w Trydencie-Górnej Adydze, z szczególną uwagą zwróconą ku kontaktowi między włoskim i niemieckim oraz ku mniejszościom językowym obecnym w regionie. Na końcu poddawane analizie zostają wyniki ankiety przeprowadzonej wśród mieszkańców Trydentu-Górnej Adygi.

This thesis deals with the linguistic situation in Trentino-Alto Adige by focusing on bilingualism and the historical linguistic minorities that are present there. Its main aim is to inquire if the population of the region indeed is bilingual and, if it is, which languages are used in which contexts.In the beginning some aspects connected with bilingualism are being analysed. The subsequent chapter contains the description of the linguistic minorities that are present in Italy and their rights. The next chapter addresses the issue of the linguistic situation in Trentino-Alto Adige with the main focus on how the contact between Italian and German works and on the linguistic minorities that are present in the region. Finally, the results of the survey conducted among the population of Trentino-Alto Adige are being analysed.

La presente tesi si occupa della situazione linguistica nel Trentino-Alto Adige concentrandosi sul bilinguismo e sulle minoranze linguistiche storiche vi presenti e ha come scopo principale indagare se gli abitanti della regione sono davvero bilingui e, se lo sono, quali lingue usano in quali contesti.All’inizio vengono analizzati alcuni aspetti legati al bilinguismo, successivamente si parla delle minoranze linguistiche presenti in Italia e i loro diritti. In seguito viene descritta la situazione linguistica nel Trentino-Alto Adige con particolare attenzione verso come funziona il contatto fra l’italiano e il tedesco e verso le minoranze linguistiche storiche presenti nella regione. Infine vengono analizzati i risultati dell’indagine condotta sugli abitanti del Trentino-Alto Adige.
