Life in a golden cage - sense of comfort, security and social bond in gated communities

Grodzone osiedla są zjawiskiem niezwykle popularnym w Polsce. Celem niniejszej pracy jest zbadanie wpływu ogrodzenia na poczucie komfortu, bezpieczeństwa i wspólnotowość mieszkańców osiedli. Rozdziały 1-3 zawierają przegląd literatury z dziedziny psychologii, jak i niezbędnych dla zgłębienia tematu pozycji z dziedziny socjologii i urbanistyki. Rozdziały 4-6 zawierają kolejno: opis metodologii, analizę oraz wnioski z badań własnych. W celu odpowiedzi na pytanie „Czy obecność ogrodzenia ma wpływ na ogólną ocenę osiedla?” przeanalizowano wyniki ankiety – badania własnego. Okazało się, że ogrodzenie nie wpływa w znaczący sposób na żadną ze zmiennych wyjaśnianych w przypadku ogółu populacji. Ustalono jednak, że starsi mieszkańcy osiedli są bardziej wspólnotowi, a mężczyźni w grodzonych osiedlach mają niższy poziom poczucia bezpieczeństwa i wspólnotowości.

Gated communities are an extremely popular phenomenon in Poland. The aim of this thesis is to investigate the influence of gated communities on the sense of comfort, safety and social bond of the inhabitants. Chapters 1-3 contain an overview of the literature in the field of psychology, as well as, necessary to explore the topic, sociology and urban planning. Chapters 4-6 contain a description of the methodology, analysis and conclusions from own research. In order to answer the question "Does the presence of a fence affect the overall evaluation of the estate?" the results of the own research (in a form of a survey) were analyzed. It turned out that the fence does not significantly affect any of the response variables for the general population. However, it was found that older inhabitants of estates are more social and that men in gated communities have lower level of sense of security and social bond.
