Homework in early childhood education in the opinions of students, parents and teachers

Inspiracją do podjęcia się przeze mnie zagadnienia prac domowych w edukacji wczesnoszkolnej w opiniach uczniów klas III, ich rodziców i nauczycieli był fakt, iż edukacja zintegrowana stanowi ważny etap okresu rozwojowego młodego człowieka, a zadania domowe, jako istotny element procesu nauczania i uczenia się, są cennym narzędziem służącym rozwojowi możliwości poznawczych u dzieci, tworzeniu się wiedzy w umyśle oraz konstruowaniu tożsamości dziecka.Za cel badań własnych, które prezentuję w tej pracy, przyjęłam rozpoznanie opinii uczniów klasy III, ich rodziców, a także nauczycieli edukacji zintegrowanej na temat szeroko pojętej roli zadań domowych. W analizie położono nacisk nie tylko na opinie dotyczące tego zagadnienia, ale również na czas, jaki dzieci spędzają przy odrabianiu prac domowych, na rodzaje zadań domowych chętnie i niechętnie wykonywane przez uczniów klasy III oraz na wsparcie, jakie otrzymują dzieci przy wypełnianiu obowiązków szkolnych w domu. Do pomiaru opinii dotyczących prac domowych w procesie kształcenia uczniów klas III wykorzystałam metodę sondażu diagnostycznego. By dokonać analizy wybranej próby badawczej skonstruowałam trzy ankiety: dla uczniów klas III, dla jednego z rodziców każdego ucznia oraz dla nauczycieli pracujących obecnie w klasach III.Jak wykazały wyniki badań własnych, w opinii uczniów klas III, ich rodziców i wychowawców zadania domowe są bardzo ważnym elementem procesu kształcenia. Odgrywają niebagatelną rolę we wszechstronnym rozwoju dziecka i ta rola jest doceniania przez większość badanych uczestników procesu dydaktyczno-wychowawczego. Nauczyciele i rodzice uznają prace domowe za cenne i pomocne narzędzie edukacji dzieci. Zadania domowe są lubianym obowiązkiem szkolnym wykonywanym przez dzieci w domu, a uczniowie dostrzegają dzięki nim szeroki wachlarz możliwości doskonalących.

This dissertation will examine the role of homework in early grades education and is motivated by the fact that integrated education constitutes an important stage in child development and homework is a crucial element in learning processes; it is a valuable tool in the development of cognitive abilities in children, knowledge acquisition and children’s identity. My research will present how the concept of homework is perceived by the third grade students, their parents and teachers.The aim of this research is to evaluate opinions of third grade students, their parents and teachers on the role of homework in integrated education. This analysis puts emphasis on the role of homework as well as the time pupils spend doing their homework, the types of homework (splitting them into those which are performed willingly and reluctantly) and the support children receive in fulfilling school-related duties at home.I used the diagnostic survey method to measure the opinions concerning homework of the third grade students. For this purpose I constructed three questionnaires: one for the students, one for the parents of each student, and one for the teachers.The research findings clearly indicate that the third grade students, their parents and tutors perceive homework as a very important part of the education processes. Homework proves to be significant in the comprehensive development of the child and it is appreciated by the majority of the surveyed participants of the educational process. Teachers and parents find homework a valuable and helpful tool for educating children. Homework is a popular school activity performed by children at home. Thanks to the homework students are exposed to a range of improvement opportunities.
