Exposing ideology: novel The Impressionist by Hari Kunzru in context of symbolic violence in British literature turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Celem pracy jest odsłonięcie mechanizmów przemocy symbolicznej w literaturze brytyjskiej XIX i XX wieku. Kontekstem zastosowanym w tym celu jest powieść Impresjonista Hariego Kunzru. Mechanizmy przemocowe w literaturze podzielone zostają na trzy grupy: odnoszące się do władzy, hierarchii społecznej i „inności”. Każda z powyższych zostaje opisana za pomocą konfrontacji literatury okresu kolonialnego, powieści Impresjonista oraz literatury naukowej. Najważniejsze dzieła okresu XIX i XX wieku wykorzystane w analizie to: Olivier Twist Charlesa Dickensa, Mały Lord Farnces Burnett i Stalky i Spółka Ruynarda Kiplinga.

The aim of the work is to reveal the mechanisms of symbolic violence in British literature of the 19th and 20th centuries. The context used for this purpose is the novel The Impressionist by Hari Kunzru. Violent mechanisms in literature are divided into three groups: those relating to power, social hierarchy and "otherness". Each of the above is described through a confrontation of the literature of the colonial period, the novel The Impressionist and scientific literature. The most important works of the 19th and 20th centuries used in the analysis are: Olivier Twist by Charles Dickens, Little Lord by Farnces Burnett and Stalky and Co by Ruynard Kipling.
