Operation "Pedro Pan" - A picture of the 1960-1962 exodus in the memories of Cuban children

Praca magisterska poświęcona jest tematowi Operacji „Pedro Pan”, czyli masowego exodusu z lat 1960-1962, w ramach którego ponad 14 tysięcy kubańskich dzieci opuściło swój kraj i drogą lotniczą przedostało się do pobliskich Stanów Zjednoczonych. Powodem akcji była postępująca radykalizacja polityki edukacyjnej rewolucyjnego rządu Kuby i związana z tym ideologizacja programu nauczania w kubańskich szkołach. Rodzice, wysyłając swoje dzieci do demokratycznego kraju, mieli nadzieję uchronić je przed indoktrynacją - nawet za cenę długotrwałej rozłąki. Praca stara się przedstawić dzieje tego specyficznego exodusu z perspektywy nieletnich wówczas Kubańczyków, którzy brali w nim udział. Z tego względu w charakterze źródeł wykorzystuje między innymi przeprowadzone z nimi po latach wywiady, które dostarczają bezcennej, bezpośredniej perspektywy na opisywane wydarzenia.

The master's thesis is devoted to the subject of Operation Pedro Pan, the mass exodus of 1960-1962, in which more than 14,000 Cuban children left their country and made their way by air to the nearby United States. The reason for the action was the increasing radicalization of the educational policies of Cuba's revolutionary government and the related ideologization of the curriculum in Cuban schools. Parents, by sending their children to a democratic country, hoped to protect them from indoctrination, even at the cost of prolonged separation. The work seeks to present the history of this specific exodus from the perspective of the Cuban minors who took part in it at the time. For this reason, it uses as sources, among other things, interviews conducted with them years later, which provide an invaluable direct perspective on the events described.
