Exoticism in Czech literature based on a novel "Prsatý můž a zloděj příběhů" by Josef Formánek.

Niniejsza praca porusza tematykę szeroko rozumianej egzotyki w kontekście literatury czeskiej, na przykładzie współczesnej powieści Josefa Formánka ,,Prsatý muž a zloděj příběhů" . W pracy tej podjęta została próba rozgraniczenia pojęć egzotyki, egzotyzmu, egzotyczności i orientalizmu oraz ewolucji i prób redefinicji tych terminów. Opisana została historyczna droga zmiany sposobu mówienia o pozaeuropejskich miejscach i kulturach oraz przypisywanych im stereotypach. Powieść Josefa Formánka została poddana analizie przy pomocy narzędzi metodologicznych wypracowanych w ramach tzw. dyskursu postkolonialnego. Obiektem zainteresowań jest więc sposób opisu, jakiemu została poddana przez narratora ludność tubylcza, oraz to w jaki sposób są oni ukazani w utworze. Zadaniem, które przyświecało autorce pracy było zaprezentowanie, jak zmieniało się podejście do tematu egzotyki oraz jak wygląda ten problem we współczesnej czeskiej powieści.

This study explores the theme of exoticism in the context of Czech literature, using Josef Formánek's contemporary novel, "Prsatý muž a zloděj příběhů", as an example. In this study, I attempt to delineate the concepts of exoticism, exoticness, exoticization, and Orientalism, as well as their evolution and attempts at redefinition. I describe the historical trajectory of changing discourses on non-European places and cultures, along with the stereotypes attributed to them. I aim to analyze Formánek's novel using methodological tools developed within the framework of postcolonial discourse. Therefore, I am interested in examining the depiction of the indigenous population as presented by the narrator and how they are portrayed in the work. The goal I have set for myself is to demonstrate how the approach to the theme of exoticism has evolved and to explore how this issue manifests in contemporary Czech literature.
