Nieuprzejmość językowa w angielskich i polskich programach talent-show

Głównym celem niniejszej pracy było znalezienie różnic i podobieństw w nieuprzejmości językowej obecnej w angielskich i polskich programach talent-show. Analiza jakościowa posłużyła jako metoda badania.Strukturalnie praca składa się z: Rozdziału pierwszego opisującego uprzejmość językową, Rozdziału drugiego prezentującego nieuprzejmość językową jako odwrotność uprzejmości oraz jako odrębną teorię i Rozdziału trzeciego, w którym mieści się analiza i wnioski z niej wypływające. Zgromadzone dane zawierają 25 fragmentów angielskich i 25 polskich. Angielskie źródła pochodzą z programu X Factor i franczyzy Got Talent, a polskie źródła zawierają wycinki z X Factor, Must Be the Music i Mam talent! Wszystkie fragmenty zostały znalezione na serwisie YouTube oraz na oficjalnych stronach wymienionych programów. Opis zachowania członków jury, publiczności jak i reakcji uczestników programu został oparty na strategiach uprzejmości językowej Browna i Levinsona (1987, w: Bousfield 2008), strategiach nieuprzejmości językowej Culpepera (1996) i strategiach obronnych Bousfielda (2007).

The main aim of this thesis was to investigate the differences and similarities between impoliteness in English and Polish talent-shows. The research was done using qualitative analysis as a method. Structurally, the thesis comprises of: Chapter one concerning politeness and its tenets, Chapter two focusing on impoliteness as the opposite to politeness and on its independent framework and Chapter three in which I present my analysis and describe my findings.The data comprises of 25 English and 25 Polish excerpts. In English corpus I investigated X Factor and the Got Talent franchise, while Polish corpus includes X Factor, Must Be the Music and Mam talent! All the excerpts are retrieved from YouTube and the official websites of the programs. Employing Brown and Levinson’s (1987, cited in Bousfield 2008) politeness strategies, Culpeper’s (1996) impoliteness strategies and Bousfield’s (2007) defensive substrategies, I described the behaviour of the judges, the audience and the reaction of the contestants.
