Supporting self-strokes. The repertoire of self-adaptors in Polish politicians and Polish actors.

Gesty adaptacyjne, to typ gestykulacji, który każdego dnia możemy obserwować zarówno u naszych rozmówców, jak i u siebie. Gesty te są szczególnie widoczne są u osób odczuwających dyskomfort czy stres. Z tego powodu podjęłam się zbadania osób, które na co dzień występują przed kamerami, a co za tym idzie – narażone są na stres z tym związany. Celem mojej pracy było wydobycie repertuaru gestów adaptacyjnych polskich polityków i aktorów oraz porównanie ich ze sobą. W efekcie uzyskałam odpowiedź na pytanie: „Czy gesty adaptacyjne wskazanych grup zawodowych różnią pod względem sposobu realizacji, typu oraz częstotliwości występowania?”.

Self-adaptors are a type of gesticulation, that we observe both in our interlocutors and ourselves, on a daily basis. Said gestures are noticeable especially in people who feel discomfort or stress. That is why I decided to study those who have to perform in front of the camera and deal with stress caused by that. The aim of my work was to create a repertoire of self-adaptors used by Polish politicians and actors. As a result I managed to answer the question: “Are the self-adaptors of studied groups different when it comes to the way of execution, type or frequency of use”?
