Town Privileges Granting in Poland after 1989 and the Case of the Village of Kozy

Celem niniejszego opracowania była analiza zbioru nowych polskich miast powstałych po 1989 roku i określenie ich roli jakie pełnią w systemie osadniczym Polski. Pod uwagę wzięto położenie przestrzenne, strukturę wielkościową oraz przeszłość historyczną tych ośrodków. W pracy został omówiony również rozwój i przemiany polskiej sieci osadniczej, główne kryteria nadawania praw miejskich oraz system ustawodawczy dotyczący praw miejskich. W opracowaniu wykorzystano badania własne jakie zostały przeprowadzone wśród mieszkańców miejscowości Kozy, których głównym celem było poznanie ich opinii na temat możliwego uzyskania praw miejskich przez ich wieś w przyszłości. Wykazały one niechęć mieszkańców Kóz do zmiany statusu swojej miejscowości.

The objective of the thesis is to analyse a number of new Polish towns established after 1989 and to determine their role in the settlement system in Poland. The criteria taken into account are these towns’ spatial location, size structure as well as their history. The thesis discusses also the development and evolution of the Polish settlement network, main criteria for granting town privileges and legislative processes pertaining to town privileges. For the purpose of the thesis, its author conducted a number of studies among the inhabitants of the village of Kozy. The main goal of the studies was to learn the inhabitants’ opinion about a chance for their village to be granted town privileges in the future. The study has revealed that the inhabitants of Kozy are reluctant to the idea of their village having its status changed.
