Immigrants from Belarus and Ukraine in Poland in the Years 2020–2024: Integration Barriers and Ways of Overcoming Them

Wraz z rosnącą liczbą imigrantów z Białorusi i Ukrainy w Polsce, integracja tych grupspołecznych staje się istotnym wyzwaniem zarówno dla nich samych, jak i dla społeczeństwaPolskiego. Niniejsza praca ma na celu zbadanie barierów integracyjnych imigrantów z tychkrajów, opierając się na modelu Agera i Strang. Badanie przeprowadzono na podstawiewywiadów z 12 respondentami, którzy opisali swoje doświadczenia związane z zatrudnieniem,warunkami mieszkaniowymi, barierami językowymi oraz relacjami z Polakami.Wyniki pokazują, że stabilność zawodowa i mieszkaniowa, płynna znajomość językapolskiego oraz nawiązywanie relacji z Polakami były kluczowymi elementami wspierającymiproces integracji. Osoby, które mogły korzystać z tych zasobów, czuły się bardziej związane zpolskim społeczeństwem. Z kolei brak stabilności, problemy z wynajmem mieszkań orazbariery językowe były głównymi przeszkodami, które prowadziły do wyobcowania i utrudniałypełne zaangażowanie w życie społeczne i zawodowe. Praca podkreśla koniecznośćwprowadzenia wsparcia w zakresie nauki języka oraz równego dostępu do usługmieszkaniowych i zawodowych, co może znacząco ułatwić integrację imigrantów w Polsce.

Between 2020 and 2024, Poland experienced a significant increase in the number of immigrants from Belarus and Ukraine, driven by political, economic, and social factors in those countries. This study aims to examine the integration barriers faced by these immigrants in Poland and the ways they cope with them.The research is based on a qualitative analysis conducted among immigrants from Belarus and Ukraine who settled in Poland during 2020–2024. Methods such as in-depth interviews and document analysis were employed to identify the main obstacles in the integration process. The most significant barriers include language difficulties, problems with the recognition of professional qualifications, discrimination in the labor market, cultural barriers, and limited access to public services.The study also presents strategies and mechanisms that immigrants use to overcome these barriers. These include participation in Polish language courses, utilizing assistance from non-governmental organizations, building support networks within immigrant communities, and adapting to the norms and cultural values of Polish society.The findings indicate the need for the implementation of more effective integration policies and support programs that facilitate the adaptation process for immigrants. The role of civil society and public institutions in creating favorable conditions for the social integration of immigrants from Belarus and Ukraine in Poland is also highlighted.
