Kognitywna analiza wybranych wierszy Philipa Larkina i ich polskich przekładów

Niniejsza praca jest próbą kognitywnej analizy wybranych wierszy Philipa Larkina oraz ich dwóch tłumaczeń na język polski autorstwa Stanisława Barańczaka i Jacka Dehnela. Pierwszy rozdział zawiera główne założenia nurtu deskryptywnego w badaniach nad przekładem. Następnie zaprezentowane zostało kognitywne podejście do przekładu, sformułowane przez Elżbietę Tabakowską, jako użyteczne narzędzie analizy literackiej. Drugi rozdział poświęcony jest życiu i twórczości Philipa Larkina. Omówione zostają najważniejsze wątki w jego twórczości oraz jego powiązania z powojenną brytyjską grupą literacką – the Movement. Rozdział kończą noty biograficzne obojga tłumaczy. Trzeci rozdział zawiera analizę trzech wierszy Philipa Larkina: Mr. Bleaney, I Remember, I Remember oraz Large Cool Store oraz ich tłumaczeń na język polski. Dla każdego wiersza wybrano inny aspekt obrazowania: układ: figura tło, aspekt prototypowości oraz kognitywne pojęcie metafory i metonimii, aby pokazać jak tłumacze konstruują sceny w wymiarze obrazowania.

The present paper concerns the cognitive analysis of Philip Larkin’s selected poems and their Polish translations by Stanisław Barańczak and Jacek Dehnel. In the first chapter the main assumptions of Descriptive Translation Studies are presented. Then, the cognitive approach to translation analysis formulated by Elżbieta Tabakowska is discussed as a useful framework in literary translation criticism. The second chapter is a presentation of life and literary work of Philip Larkin. Some of the most important motifs in the poet’s literary output are discussed, as well as his affinity with the British post-war literary group – The Movement. The chapter ends with a biographical notes on both translators. The third chapter contains analyses of three poems and their Polish translations. The translations of each poem are compared in terms of potential differences with the source texts. Three different dimensions of imagery: figure/ground alignment, prototypicality, and the cognitive concepts of metaphor and metonymy, are chosen for each poem in order to establish whether the scene construals of the target texts are equivalent to those in the source texts on the level of imagery.
