Przekład Slangu Społeczności LGBT+ - Analiza Napisów w Programach Telewizyjnych: RuPaul’s Drag Race oraz Legendary. Praca napisana pod kierunk

Niniejsza praca bada związek między tłumaczeniem a kulturą queerową. Przedmiotem badań jest tłumaczenie audiowizualne (napisy) programów telewizyjnych „RuPaul’s Drag Race” oraz „Legendary”. Kultura queerowa, ze swoją różnorodnością ekspresji i języka, stanowi wyjątkowe wyzwanie dla tłumaczy, których głównym celem jest zachowanie jej autentyczności i uczynienie tłumaczenia zrozumiałym dla zróżnicowanych grup odbiorców. Badanie składa się z trzech głównych części: opisu kultury LGBTQ+, badania teorii i wyzwań związanych z przekładem, i szczegółowej analizy tłumaczenia queerowego sociolektu. Integralną cześcią badania są kwestie etyczne dotyczące reprezentacji LGBTQ+ oraz wrażliwości kulturowej. Materiał został selektywnie zebrany z różnych odcinków obu programów telewizyjnych, a następnie szczegółowo przeanalizowany pod kątem jakościowym i porównawczym. Wyniki badań ujawniają zakres strategii przekładowych, w tym: bezpośrednich ekwiwalentów, wyrażeń o podobnym znaczeniu, zapożyzceń, uzupełnień oraz pominięć. Strategie te mają na celu zachowanie kontekstu kulturowego przy jednoczesnym dostosowaniu treści do odbiorców docelowych. Wnioski badania przedstawiają zalety oraz wady stosowania każdej ze strategii. Badanie podkreśla wyzwania językowe związane z tłumaczeniem na język polski elementów kultury queerowej, akcentując centralną rolę języka angielskiego w jej dyskursie.

This thesis investigates the relationship between translation and queer culture, based on audiovisual translation from English to Polish, particularly the subtitles of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and “Legendary” television reality programmes. Queer culture, with its diverse expressions and language, presents a unique challenge for translators whose goal is to maintain its authenticity and make it comprehensible for diverse audiences. The research comprises three main sections: an exploration of queer culture, a study of translation theory and challenges, and a detailed analysis of the translation of queer slang. Ethical considerations regarding the LGBTQ+ representation and cultural sensitivity are integral throughout the research. The material has been selectively collected from various episodes of both television programmes and is thoroughly examined through qualitative and comparative lens. The findings reveal diverse translation strategies, including strategies of using: direct equivalents, expressions of similar meaning, loanwords, additions and omissions. These strategies aim to preserve the cultural context while adapting the content for the target audience. The conclusions shed light on advantages and disadvantages of using each strategy. The study emphasizes the linguistic challenges of translating queer-culture-specific items into Polish, highlighting the central role of the English language in queer discourse.
