Dola kobiet w książce "Bóg rzeczy małych" Arundhati Roy i "Brzemię rzeczy utraconych" Kiran Desai

Praca ma na celu przeprowadzenie analizy dwóch postkolonialnych książek – Bóg rzeczy małych Arundhati Roy oraz Brzemię rzeczy utraconych Kiran Desai. Analiza przedstawiona została w trzech rozdziałach. Pierwszy stanowi ogólne omówienie sytuacji kobiet w indyjskim społeczeństwie; drugi i trzeci mają na celu ukazanie zarówno idei postkolonializmu, jak i patriarchatu w strukturze indyjskiego społeczeństwa. Nadrzędnym wnioskiem wynikającym z przeprowadzonej analizy jest zaliczenie obu powieści do grona dzieł postkolonialnych, jako iż ukazują one wpływ kolonializmu na bohaterów. Obie książki są również wyrazem sprzeciwu ich autorek wobec dyskryminacji kobiet w Indiach, która wciąż stanowi istotny problem w tym kraju.

This thesis aims at an analysis of two postcolonial novels, namely The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy and The Inheritance of Loss by Kiran Desai. The analysis is conducted within three chapters. The first one provides an overview of social situation of women in Indian society; whereas the subsequent two chapters are dedicated to the examination of both novels in terms of the existence of the postcolonial discourse, as well as the patriarchal structure of Indian society. The primary conclusion reached during the process of analysis of the novels is that they are both examples of postcolonial writing, as they portray the effects of colonisation on the protagonists. What is more, both novels are expressions of the author’s critique of social discrimination of women in India, which is still a prevalent issue.
