The history of the emergence of the Żeromski Hospital in Cracow- Nowa Huta

Wstęp: Powstanie szpitalnictwa polskiego sięga czasów Średniowiecza. Pierwsze instytucje tego typu powstały przy kościołach i klasztorach. Działalność ta zapoczątkowała rozwój placówek zwanych dziś szpitalami. Jednym z najstarszych obiektów medycznych powstałych na terenie miasta Krakowa w okresie powojennym jest Szpital im. St. Żeromskiego.Cel: Celem pracy było ukazanie zmian zachodzących w strukturze organizacyjnej, funkcjonalnej oraz w infrastrukturze Szpitala im. St. Żeromskiego w Krakowie od chwili powstania do czasów obecnych. Szukano odpowiedzi na pytanie czy szpital nadąża za potrzebami i wymaganiami zdrowotnymi kolejnych pokoleń mieszkańców Krakowa i okolic.Materiał i metody: W pracy wykorzystano dwie metody badawcze: metodę badania dokumentów oraz sondażu diagnostycznego. Narzędziami badawczymi były: materiały zgromadzone w archiwum i dziale administracji Szpitala im. St. Żeromskiego; materiały prasowe archiwum Gazety Krakowskiej z lat 1954-1974; publikacje zamieszczone na oficjalnej stronie internetowej szpitala. Posłużono się techniką wywiadu spontanicznego o charakterze pytań celowanych. Wywiady przeprowadzono z pracownikami szpitala im. St. Żeromskiego.Wyniki: Historia Szpitala im. St. Żeromskiego w Krakowie datuje się od roku 1951. W okresie przeszło 60 lat istnienia był on wielokrotnie modernizowany i rozbudowywany. Zmiany dotyczyły nie tylko jego infrastruktury, ale także organizacji i metod pracy lekarzy i pielęgniarek.Dziś jest to jeden z najstarszych szpitali specjalistycznych w Polsce.

Introduction: The beginning of Polish hospital treatment dates back to The Medieval Times. Some first institution of that type were created beside churches and monasteries. This kind of activities was the beginning if the development of the posts which are nowadays called hospitals. One of the oldest hospitals that were created in Cracow in the interwar period is Żeromski Hospital.The aim: The aim of this thesis was to show the changes in the organizational and functional structures together with the changes in the infrastructure of Żeromski Hospital in Cracow. The answer for the question, if the hospital cope with the medical needs and demands of the successive generation of the Cracow dwellers, was sought.The material and the methods: In the thesis two test methods were used. The first was the document analysis method and the second was the diagnostic poll method. The research tools were materials collected in the archives and in the Żeromski Hospital's administration department. These were press materials from the archives of Gazeta Krakowska over the years 1954-1974 together with the publications taken from the hospital’s official web site. In the thesis the technique of the spontaneous interview was also used. The people interviewed were the workers of the Żeromski Hospital.The results: The history of The Żeromski Hospital in Cracow dates back to the year 1951. During the next 60 years of its existence it was modernized and enlarged many times. The changes of the hospital were not only in its infrastructure but also within working methods of its personnel that is physicians and nurses. Nowadays it is one of the oldest specialistic hospital in Poland.
