The Bursa Jerusalem was one of the largest colleges for students of the University of Kraków. It was founded by the bishop of Kraków, Cardinal Zbigniew Olesnicki, in 1453-1456. Its building, destroyed by fire in 1841, was pulled down in the second half of the 19th century. One of the very few preserved traces of this magnificent edifice is its foundation plaque. It depicts Bishop Oleśnicki, supported by the figure of St Stanislaus, presenting the model of the Bursa to the Infant Jesus held by the Mother of God. The article is an attempt to read the ideological programme of this unusual monument. At the beginning the development of donation scenes and the tradition of placing foundation plaques are presented. The original location of the monument on the façade of the Bursa Jerusalem and its possible relocation are discussed. Attention was drawn to the so far unanalysed details of the preserved elements and possible reconstructions of damaged fragments. Some findings based on 19th century additions to the relief and its 20th century copy were rejected. Consideration was given to the preserved but still not sufficiently used iconography of the monument dating from the first half of the 19th century. Particular attention was paid to the insignia and attributes of power: episcopal - in the case of Oleśnicki and the figure of St Stanislaus shown behind him - and monarchical - in the case of the Infant Jesus and his Mother. It was verified whether one can speak about the sculptor's presentation of authentic insignia of Bishop Oleśnicki and alleged St. Stanislaw. It was also explained why Oleśnicki was not presented in cardinal's robes.pl
