The Dream Team’s influence on the development of the NBA league and its popularization outside of the United States of America.

Celem niniejszej pracy jest ukazanie wpływu, jaki na rozwój ligi NBA oraz na wzrost jej popularności poza Stanami Zjednoczonymi wywarł udział Dream Teamu na Igrzyskach Olimpijskich w Barcelonie. W początkowej części pracy odwołano się do profesjonalnej koszykówki amerykańskiej, przedstawiono genezę ligi NBA oraz powstania Dream Teamu, a także przytoczono najważniejsze wydarzenia poprzedzające Igrzyska Olimpijskie w Barcelonie. Następnie na podstawie badań archiwalnych artykułów Gazety Wyborczej ukazano jak po olimpiadzie w 1992 roku wzrastała popularność NBA w Polsce oraz czym się charakteryzowała. W końcowych fragmentach przedstawiono skutki globalne, skupiając się na ekspansji ligi NBA oraz nowym poziomie koszykówki i jej znaczeniu w odniesieniu do kultury amerykańskiej.

The aim of this thesis is to show the impact of the Dream Team's participation at the Barcelona Olympics on the development of the NBA league and its increase in popularity outside of the United States of America. The initial part of the work refers to professional American basketball, presents the genesis of the NBA league and the creation of the Dream Team, as well as the most important events preceding the Olympic Games in Barcelona. Then, based on the archival research of Gazeta Wyborcza articles, it was shown how the popularity of the NBA in Poland grew after the Olympics in 1992 and what it characterized. The final fragments outline the global effects, focusing on the expansion of the NBA league and the new level of basketball and its importance in relation to American culture.
