Process in theatre group Entheos. Tatsumi Hijikata’s and Jerzy Grotowski's exhaustion

Poniższa praca jest próbą znalezienia podobieństw w metodach teatralnych Tatsumiego Hijikaty (twórcy teatru tańca butoh) i Jerzego Grotowskiego, przekładając zagadnienia merytoryczne na praktyczną sferę pracy w studenckiej grupie teatralnej Entheos. W pierwszym rozdziale praca skupia się na analizie aspektu wyczerpania fizycznego i psychicznego, który charakteryzuje obydwie metody, bazujące na modelu mistrz – uczeń. Autorka w kolejnych podrozdziałach omawia podobieństwa metod Hijikaty i Grotowskiego, skupiając się na podejściu do osób wykonawczych. Analiza ma także charakter krytyczny i ukazuje szkodliwe aspekty pracy z wyczerpaniem w takowym modelu. W drugim rozdziale omawiany jest model pracy grupy teatralnej Entheos. Autorka jako członkini grupy, podejmuje próbę redefinicji utartych schematów w praktyce teatru fizycznego, przyjmując metodologię badawczo-praktyczną, a dokładniej buthologii czynnej.Praca napisana jest w oparciu o źródła naukowe dotyczące twórczości Hijikaty i Grotowskiego, opisy spektakli oraz przeprowadzone przez autorkę wywiady. Autorka poddaje refleksji także własne doświadczenia teatru ruchu, uczestnictwa w warsztatach i pracy z metodą wyczerpania.Ostatecznie autorka przedstawia charakterystykę alternatywnej metody pracy teatralnej o bardziej kolektywnym modelu, w odpowiedzi na model mistrzowski.

The aim of the thesis is to present similarities between Tatsumi Hijikata’s (butoh dance theatre creator) and Jerzy Grotowski’s methods. The author of the paper compares theoretical concepts of both creators with her own practical experience as she is a member of a student theatre group Entheos.The first chapter is an analysis of the aspect of mental and physical exhaustion connected with both examined methods. They are also heavily related with the model of work concentrating on the student-master relationship. In the following sections the author discusses the resemblances between Hijikata’s and Grotowski’s methods, and specifically, their approaches towards the performers they worked with. The analysis is critical and shows the harmful sides of such practices. In the second chapter the model of work in Entheos is described. The author tries to redefine stereotypes concerning physical theatre. The methodology she uses combines theoretical research and practical experience.The paper is written based on scientific sources concerning Grotowski’s and Hijikata’s work, descriptions of the spectacles and interviews conducted by the author. She also reflects on her own experience with physical theatre, Grotowski’s method workshops and other methods which involve exhaustion. Finally, the author presents the characteristics of an alternative model of work, a more collective and equal one, as an answer to those based on a potentially harmful hierarchy.
