Despite the prohibitions regulated in German law, a German couple can acquire a surrogate child from abroad. Until February 2022, Ukraine was particularly attractive for child surrogacy. But neither Ukrainian nor German law contains specific provisions protecting the rights of the surrogate children in case the intended parents no longer want them. The article discusses the parentage of the unwanted surrogate children and the intended parents' obligation to pay child support for these children.
