Spotkanie dwóch wielkich poetów: Analiza Mickiewiczowskiego przekładu „Giaura” George'a Byrona

Głównym celem pracy jest zestawienie ze sobą „Giaura” George’a Byrona oraz przekładu autorstwa Adama Mickiewicza. Autorka chce przede wszystkim porównać przesłania płynące z obu tekstów, oraz przyjrzeć się ich warstwie formalnej. W pierwszym rozdziale przedstawiona jest epoka Romantyzmu oraz charakterystyczne dla niej idee, krótkie życiorysy George’a Byrona oraz Adama Mickiewicza, oraz poglądy na temat przekładu, które panowały w ówczesnych czasach. W drugim rozdziale ukazana jest metodologia dotycząca przekładu poezji pod względem jej formy i treści. Opisane jest także zagadnienie prawa tłumacza do zajęcia twórczej postawy wobec tłumaczonego tekstu. Trzeci rozdział poświęcony jest porównaniu wybranych fragmentów obu wersji „Giaura” oraz wyciągnięciu wniosków z owego porównania dotyczących sposobu, w jaki Mickiewicz podszedł do tekstu.

The main purpose of the thesis is to juxtapose George Byron's 'Giaour' and its translation by Adam Mickiewicz. The author wants to compare both texts, especially in terms of the message they carry, and additionally take a look at the form of both versions. The first chapter presents the era of Romanticism and its characteristic ideas, short biographies of George Byron and Adam Mickiewicz, and the views on translation that prevailed at that time. The second chapter presents the methodology for translating poetry in terms of its form and content and the issue of the translator's right to take a creative stance towards the translated text. The third chapter is devoted to the comparison of chosen fragments of both versions of the 'Giaour' and is aimed at drawing conclusions from it, concerning Mickiewicz’s way of approaching the text.
