The nurse's role in the prevention of poisoning by heavy metals in children.

Zatrucia metalami ciężkimi u dzieci mogą prowadzić do utraty zdrowia a nawet życia dziecka. Mają one głównie charakter przypadkowy, związany z niedostateczną opieką sprawowaną przez rodziców i opiekunów nad dzieckiem. Zdarzają się również przypadki celowego spożycia przez dzieci starsze substancji toksycznych, zawierających związki metali, w celach manifestacyjno-samobójczych. Powszechne występowanie związków metali w środowisku oraz ich zastosowanie w wielu gałęziach przemysłu, w tym również farmaceutycznym powoduje ich szeroką dostępność a co za tym idzie ryzyko zatruć. Celem pracy jest przedstawienie profilaktyki zatruć metalami ciężkimi u dzieci oraz roli pielęgniarki w tej profilaktyce. Realizacja zadań profilaktycznych może prowadzić do znacznego zmniejszenia ilości zatruć tymi związkami.

Heavy metal poisoning can cause serious illness and even death. In childhood it is usually accidental, due neglect on the side of the parents or the carers caregivers. Cases of deliberate ingestion can also occur in older children, they are usually a cry for help or a suicide attempts. The prevalence of metal compounds in the environment and their application in many industries, including the pharmaceutical industry makes them widely available and what goes with that increases the risk of being poisoned by them.The aim of this work is to present the prophylaxis of heavy metal poisoning in children and the role of nurses in this prevention. Implementation of preventive tasks can lead to a significant reduction in poisonings with these compounds.
