Sofía Casanova as a Translator and a Cultural Mediator. Analysis of Cultural Elements in "Bartek el Vencedor" by Henryk Sienkiewicz

Głównym celem rozważań zawartych w pracy jest ukazanie tłumacza jako mediatora międzykulturowego. Jedno z podstawowych pytań jakie zostaje postawione brzmi, czy tłumacz może stać się ambasadorem międzykulturowym, poprzez podjęcie, innych niż tłumaczenie, działań. W celu ukazania owego problemu, na łamach pracy została przedstawiona biografia Sofii Casanovy. Owa biografia służyć ma jednocześnie przypomnieniu o tej wybitnej jednostce, która z biegiem lat została nieco zapomniana, zarówno w Hiszpanii, jak i w Polsce. W pracy dokonano również analizy tłumaczenie elementów kultuowych zawartych w noweli Henryka Sienkiewicza, "Bartek Zwycięzca". Celem owego badania jest ukazanie narzędzi traduktologicznych zastosowanych przez Sofíę Casanovę w procesie tłumaczenia kulturemów. Ponad to, na podstawie owej analizy zostaje oceniony poziom mediacji obecny w tekście docelowym.

The study´s mail goal is to present an interpreter as a cultural mediator. One of the main questions raised in the study is whether a translator can be a cultural embassador, not only by making translations, but also through undertaking other activities. To prove that, we present a biography of Sofía Casanova. A life history is also an excuse to remaind about this remrkable personality that became a bit forgotten, both in Spain and in Poland. Moreover, the study presents a analysis of translation of the cultural elements contained in the novel "Bartek el Vencedor", written by Henryk Sienkiewicz. The main goal of this investigation is to present the tools used by Sofía Casanova during the proces of the translation of those elements.. What is more, we estimate the grade of the mediation of the interpreter, present in the final text.

El objetivo principal de la presente ponencia es la investigación del papel del traductor como un mediador cultural. Una de las preguntas planteadas en el estudio es, si un traductor puede ser un embajador cultural, no solamente por efectuar las traducciones, sino también a través de emprender otras actividades. Para hacerlo, se presenta la biografía de Sofía Casanova. La semblanza aparece también para recordar de este personaje excelente, que con el paso del tiempo ha sido un poco olvidado, tanto en España, como en Polonia. La tesina contiene además, el análisis de los culturemas en la traducción de una novela de Henryk Sienkiewicz "Bartek el Vencedor". Esta investigación tiene como objetivo la demostración de las herramientas utilizadas por Sofía Casanova durante el proceso de la traducción de dichos elementos. Basándose en el análisis, se estima también el grado de la mediación del traductor presente en el texto meta.
