Legal and economic aspects of running a hotel business in the time of the Covid-19 pandemic

Celem zasadniczym danej pracy jest zbadanie wpływu pandemii Covid-19 na aspekty prawne i ekonomiczne prowadzenia działalności hotelarskiej. Autorka przeanalizowała sytuację rynku hotelarskiego w okresie 2010-2019 aby móc odpowiednio porównać dane do danych z roku 2020, w którym wybuchła pandemia. Koleinie przenalizowane zostały akty prawne dotyczące sposobu prowadzenia działalności hotelarskiej w dobie pandemii. Aby móc dogłębnie zrozumieć konsekwencje wszelkich ograniczeń bezpośrednich oraz pośrednich dla obiektów hotelowych, autorka wykorzystała metodę studium przypadku do przeprowadzenia analizy konkretnego przedsiębiorstwa dotkniętego skutkami pandemii. Obserwacji i badaniom poddane zostały zmiany, które zostały wprowadzone w hotelu zgodnie z wytycznymi rządowymi. Dane badania potwierdziły założone przez autorkę hipotezy, iż branża hotelarska odnotowała poważny spadek rozwoju a branża turystyczna uległa przeobrażeniu oraz adaptacji do nowych warunków. Mimo pozytywnej zmiany w postaci większego zainteresowania turystyką lokalną przez społeczeństwo, dla hotelarzy przeważają negatywne konsekwencje. Ponadto niepewność w branży hotelarskiej spowodowana wciąż trwającą pandemią utwierdza autorkę w przekonaniu, iż powrót do stanu sprzed pandemii będzie bardzo powolny.

The main goal of this work is to study the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the legal and economic aspects of running a hotel business. The author analyzed the situation of the hotel market in the period 2010-2019 in order to be able to properly compare the data with the data from 2020, when the pandemic broke out. Over the course of this work, legal acts concerning the way of conducting hotel activities in the pandemic were analyzed. In order to be able to understand in depth the consequences of any direct and indirect restrictions on hotel facilities, the author used the method of case study method to analyze a specific hotel affected by the pandemic. Changes that were introduced in the hotel in accordance with governmental guidelines were subjected to observation and research. The research data confirmed the hypothesis assumed by the author that the hotel industry experienced a serious decline in development and the tourism industry was transformed and adapted to new conditions. Despite the positive change in the form of greater public interest in local tourism, negative consequences prevail for hoteliers. In addition, the uncertainty in the hotel industry caused by the still ongoing pandemic confirms the author's belief that the recovery to the pre-pandemic state will be very slow.
