Czasowniki modalne jako środek wyrażania modalności epistemicznej w języku niemieckim i polskim

Modal verbs as a means of expressing epistemic modality in German and Polish

Celem niniejszej pracy jest zbadanie roli niemieckich czasowników modalnych w użyciu epistemicznym wśród innych wykładników tego rodzaju modalności oraz ich odpowiedników w języku polskim. Na podstawie oryginalnych przykładów wypowiedzi w języku niemieckim podjęta zostaje próba określenia środków języka polskiego, za pomocą których można oddać epistemiczne znaczenie niemieckich czasowników modalnych. Praca pokazuje jak ważną rolę pełnią czasowniki modalne w wyrażaniu stopnia przekonania nadawcy o prawdziwości wypowiedzi.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the role of German modal verbs in epistemic usage among other means of expression of epistemic modality and to adequately convey them in Polish with the help of numerous examples of authentic statements in German. The different linguistic means used in Polish by means of which we can render the subjective meaning of German modal verbs are presented. This paper shows how important role the modal verbs play in expressing the level of probability.

Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, die Rolle der deutschen Modalverben im epistemischen Gebrauch neben anderen Ausdrucksmitteln der epistemischen Modalität zu untersuchen. Ausgehend von authentischen Beispielen aus deutschen Texten wird der Versuch unternommen, polnische Entsprechungen deutscher Modalverben zu finden. Es werden verschiedene Mittel des Polnischen dargestellt, mit denen die subjektive Bedeutung der deutschen Modalverben wiedergegeben werden kann. Die Arbeit zeigt, welche Rolle die Modalverben beim Ausdruck des Gewissheitsgrades spielen.
