Ekwiwalencja formalna i dynamiczna : Analiza porównawcza pięciu wybranych anglojęzycznych tłumaczeń Modlitwy Pańskiej (Ewangelia Łukasza 11:2-4)

Poniższa praca analizuje pięć wybranych anglojęzycznych tłumaczeń Modlitwy Pańskiej w wersji z Ewangelii Łukasza, rozdziału 11, wersetów od 2 do 4, dokładniej King James Version, Literal Standard Version, The Message, The Passion Translation oraz EASY English Bible, w odniesieniu do teorii ekwiwalencji formalnej i dynamicznej Eugeniusza Alberta Nidy. Pierwszy rozdział bada tę teorię samą w sobie, przekładając jej koncept na tłumaczenia biblijne, kładąc fundament późniejszej interpretacji. Następnie rozważone zostały znaczenie tekstu, jego historyczny i teologiczny kontekst, wraz z przyczynami występowania wielu wersji Modlitwy. W rozdziale drugim zawarta została także strategia wyboru wspomnianych pięciu przekładów. Na koniec, warstwy lingwistyczna i teologiczna tłumaczenia interlinearnego wersetów zostały rozpatrzone, poprzedzając analizę i porównanie dwóch formalnych (KJV, LSV) oraz trzech dynamicznych przekładów (MSG, TPT, EASY). Głównym celem poniższej pracy jest zaobserwowanie, jak przyjęta strategia tłumaczeniowa wpływa na wybory tłumacza, a przez nie na obrazy mentalne wywołane w głowie czytelnika i jego ogólne rozumienie tekstu.

This paper explores five selected Anglophone translations of the Lord’s Prayer found in the Gospel of Luke, chapter 11, verses 2 through 4, namely King James Version, Literal Standard Version, The Message, The Passion Translation and EASY English Bible in reference to Eugene Albert Nida’s theory on formal and dynamic equivalence. The first chapter examines the theory itself, applying the concept to biblical translations, laying foundation for the following interpretation. Secondly, the significance of the text, the historical and theological context behind the Lukan Lord’s Prayer are discussed, along with the reasons for multiple versions of the Prayer available. An explanation on why the said five translations were chosen can also be found in the second chapter. Lastly, an interlinear translation of the verses is investigated in its linguistic and theological essence, followed by the analysis and comparison between the two formal (KJV, LSV) and the three dynamic translations (MSG, TPT, EASY). The main focus of this thesis is to observe how the undertaken approach influences the translators’ choices and therefore the mental images evoked in the reader and their general comprehension of the text.
