No time to grow up - analysis of problematic mother-daughter relations in literature and film of the 20th and 21st century, in the example of Mira Marcinów's "Bezmatek", Elfriede Jelinek's "The Piano Teacher" and Ingmar Bergman's Autumn "Sonata"

Celem niniejszej pracy jest analiza realizacji motywu problematycznych relacji matek i córek na przykładach dwóch powieści: "Bezmatka" Miry Marcinów, "Pianistki" Elfriede Jelinek oraz filmu Ingmara Bergmana "Jesienna sonata". Praca ma na celu opisanie konstrukcji postaci matek i córek oraz ich oddziaływania na siebie nawzajem w wybranych tekstach kultury. W pracy zostaje podjęte zadanie opisania wpływu matek na córki, który to wpływ uniemożliwia tym ostatnim odpowiednie dorośnięcie, upodmiotowienie i zdystansowanie wobec postaci rodzica oraz własnego dzieciństwa. Cechą charakterystyczną spajającą trzy wybrane teksty, jest nadmierna zależność córek od matek, powodowana celowym bądź przypadkowym działaniem matki i skutkująca niemożnością pełnego usamodzielnienia córki.

The purpose of this paper is an analysis of the theme of problematic relations between mothers and daughters shown in the example of two novels: Mira Marcinów's "Bezmatek", Elfriede Jelinek' "The Piano Teacher", and Ingmar Bergman's film "Autumn Sonata". The aim of the paper is to describe the character development of mothers and daughters and their interactions with each other. The author focuses on describing the influence of mothers on their daughters, which prevents the latter from proper adolescence, distancing from the parent and leaving their childhood behind. A distinctive of all three selected texts is the excessive dependence of the daughters on their mothers, caused by more or less intentional actions of the mothers and resulting in the daughters' inability to become fully independent and therefore truly adult.
