Wiedźmy, czarodzieje i mugole – Analiza porównawcza polskich i niemieckich tłumaczeń nazw własnych w książce Harry Potter i Insygnia Śmierci J.K. Rowling

W niniejszej pracy dokonano analizy ogólnie rozumianych nazw własnych, które pojawiły się w siódmej części z serii książek o Harry Potterze autorstwa J.K. Rowling, zatytułowanej Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Harry Potter i Insygnia Śmierci). Za pomocą analizy porównawczej zbadano tłumaczenia tejże książki na język polski i niemiecki, dokonane przez Andrzeja Polkowskiego, Armię Świstaka oraz Klausa Fritza. W pracy załączono krótką biografię autorki oraz biografie tłumaczy. Ponadto opisano zarys historii fantastycznej literatury dziecięcej w XX wieku oraz zaprezentowano informacje teoretyczne, dotyczące strategii tłumaczenia nazw własnych w literaturze dziecięcej. Następnie przedstawiono techniczne informacje, dotyczące metod tworzenia bazy danych, na których oparta jest niniejsza analiza z użyciem programu komputerowego LF Aligner. Badane słownictwo zostało podzielone na kategorie zgodnie z rodzajem nazw własnych, a następnie każdą nazwę zakwalifikowano do jednej z ośmiu strategii tłumaczenia nazw własnych w literaturze dziecięcej zaprezentowanych przez Davies. W wyniku analizy wykazano powszechne tendencje tłumaczeniowe, występujące zarówno w wersjach polskich jak i niemieckiej oraz indywidualne podejścia stosowane przez każdego z tłumaczy. Głównym celem pracy było stworzenie listy wskazówek dla przyszłych tłumaczy literatury dziecięcej. Głównymi strategiami użytymi w tłumaczeniu okazały się zachowanie nazw w ich oryginalnej formie jeżeli jest to tylko możliwe lub ich dosłownie tłumaczenie w przypadku, gdy ich semantyczna zawartość jest ważna dla zrozumienia postaci.

This study analyzes generally understood proper names that appeared in the seventh part of the series about Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling titled Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The comparative analysis examined three of the book’s translations into Polish and German by Andrzej Polkowski, Armia Świstaka and Klaus Fritz. The paper also presents the outline of Rowling’s biography as well as the short biographies of the translators of the analyzed versions. Apart from it, it discusses shortly the outline of the fantasy children literature in 20th century and provides theoretical information on strategies used in translating proper names in children literature. Then, the technical information about the methods used to create the data base for the analysis with the use of the LF Aligner software program is presented. The case study was categorized according to the types of proper names, then each of them was assigned to one of eight translation strategies introduced by Davies and used to translate proper names in the books for children. The results show the universal tendencies in translating proper names in both Polish and German versions, as well as individual approaches used by each of the translators. The main aim of this study was to provide the hints for future translators of children literature that recommend to preserve as many proper names as possible and translate in various ways only these that are meaningfully loaded. All of the analyzed words are gathered in the Tables included in the appendix.
