Podczas analizy wykorzystano metody opracowane przez Duńskie Centrum do Badań Tekstyliów (Center for Textile Research).
The aim of this study is to reconstruct the weaving wokrshop and characterize the textiles produced during the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age in the region of Lesser Poland, based on archeological sites from Dunajec Valley. The study is theoretical. The analysis is based on the principal components and remains of the loom - loom weights. This category of artefacts remains relatively understudied in Polish literature, and publications often omit a key parameter - the weight of the objects. The primary function of loom weights was to maintain tension im the wrap threads, thereby enabling the production of textiles with an even weave. Analysis of their weight and width makes it possible to reconstruct the hypotherical characteristics of the fabric, including textile type, thread density, degree of yarn twist, number of threads, and weave structure. The study also considers other archaeological evidence associated with textile production, such as spindle whorls, pits, postholes, weaving tablets, needles and, most importantly, preserved textile remains. The study further discusses the successive staged of textile production. The process begins with the acquisition of raw materials of plant or animal origin, wich are subsequently processed to obtain fibres. Individual fibres are then twisted together using a hand spindle weighted with a spindle whorl to produce yarn. This is the most time-consuming stage of the process and also the most decisive, as the properties of the resulting yarn largely determine the charakter of the final textile. The principal stage is weaving, that is, the production of fabric through the interlacing of threads. This activity was carried out on the wrap-weighted loom. The subsequent stages involve the finishing of the completed textile, enhancing its decorative qualities and transforming it into an element of clothing. The reconstruction presented here focuses less on the structure of loom itslef, as its construction shows little variation between the sites, under consideration. Instead, the main empasis is placed on the possible textiles produced using the loom remains discovered at Wierzchosławice, Wojnicz and Maszkowice. The results indicate that these tools were fully functional and were primarily used for the production of coarse woolen textiles. The analysis was conducted using methodologies developed by the Centre for Textile Research.
