Is Ukraine a divided country? Socio-political differences in Ukraine in the light of the Samuel P. Huntington's theory

Ukraina to ten kraj, który od początku swego świadomego istnienia miał duży potencjał rozwojowy i ważne położenie geopolityczne. Pełni ona także ważną funkcję dla zrównoważonego rozmieszczenia sił i stref wpływu głównych graczy geopolitycznych na kontynencie. Z tego powodu Ukraina zawsze przyciągała uwagę i zainteresowanie ze strony społeczności międzynarodowej, a także była głównym ośrodkiem zderzenia zachodniej i wschodniej cywilizacji. Społeczno-kulturowe podziały społeczeństwa, które ukształtowały się na jej terytorium już od dawna, wpływają zarówno na politykę wewnętrzną i zewnętrzną państwa, jak i na jego integralność. Odmienne postawy Ukraińców oraz różnice poglądów dotyczące priorytetowych kierunków rozwoju odegrają ważną rolę dla przyszłości tego kraju. Niniejsza praca ma na celu próbę opisania owych podziałów w odniesieniu do teorii Samuela P. Huntingtona.

Ukraine is the country which from the beginning of its conscious existence had great development potential and important geopolitical location. This country also plays an important role for the sustainable deployment of forces and zones of influence of major geopolitical players on the continent. For this reason, Ukraine has always attracted attention and interest from the international community, and was also the main centre of the collision of Western and Eastern civilization. Social and cultural divisions of society, which have developed on its territory for a long time, affect both the internal and external policy of the state, as well as its integrity. Different attitudes and points of view of Ukrainians regarding priority development directions will play an important role for the future of this country. The purpose of this thesis is to describe these divisions in relation to Samuel P. Huntington's theory.
