Utopian Orient in Hermann Hesses novel “The Glass Bead Game”.

Tematem badań w niniejszej pracy jest utopijny orient w powieści Hermann Hessego pt. „Gra szklanych paciorków”. Już od wczesnego dzieciństwa Hermann Hesse miał okazję zapoznawać się z kulturą Azji. Jego późniejsze lektury hinduskich oraz buddyjskich tekstów jak również podróż do Indii w roku 1911 stopniowo uzupełniały ten obraz. „Gra szklanych paciorków” jest dziełem dojrzałego już pisarza, który zawarł w niej nie tylko swoje rozważania na temat życia, ale również miejsca człowieka we wszechświecie.Utopijne motywy stanowią główną strukturę tej powieści. Czytelnik ma do czynienia z zakonem –państwem Kastalią. Wspólnota ta przypomina zakony chrześcijańskie: jej członkowie składają śluby: ubóstwa, czystości oraz posłuszeństwa. Jednocześnie oddają się medytacji, co wskazuje już na wspólnoty azjatyckie. Kastalia nie jest jednak kolejnym zakonem o charakterze religijnym. Jest to wspólnota świecka, działająca na polu edukacji i nauki. Z tych studiów jako ich ukoronowanie wyłania się gra szklanych paciorków.W poniższej pracy motywy orientalne zostały zanalizowane pod kątem utopii. W pierwszej kolejności po wstępnym nakreśleniu tendencji postrzegania orientu w Europie następuje analiza państwa Kastalii. Kolejno zostały zbadane utopijne wątki w samej grze szklanych paciorków. W trzecim rozdziale natomiast zanalizowane zostały relacje głównego bohatera, głównie opierające się na linii: uczeń – mistrz.„Gra szklanych paciorków” jest dziełem złożonym. W poniższej pracy ukazany został jej utopijno-orientalny aspekt.

The main goal of the following master thesis was an literary analysis of the utopian-oriental motives in Hermann Hesses novel “The Glass Bead Game”.Orient and its influences were present in the life of this writer since his very early childhood. In the following years Hermann Hesse got the opportunity to confront himself with significant Hindu and Buddhist texts. During his whole life those ideas and philosophical thoughts were significant for his novels from famous “Siddhartha” to “The Glass bead Game”. This books is a masterpieces of already mature artist. In the first line were analysed the historical and biographical background of Hesses interests with Orient.Then the main chapter was dedicated to three queries in the novel. Firstly there was an analyse of the Castalia under the aspect of utopian order. Secondly, an analyst of utopia-oriental motives in the Glass Bead Game itself.Thirdly there was a given notice to the typical oriental type of the relationship: master- student.“Glass Bead Game” is a very complex novel. The following master thesis shows its utopian-oriental aspect.

In der vorliegenden Magisterarbeit wurden die utopisch-orientalischen Motive im Hermann Hesses Werk „Das Glasperlenspiel“ analysiert.Schon von Kindheit an hatte Hesse die Gelegenheit die asiatischen Kulturen wenigstens aus der Geschichten kennenzulernen. Später innehalb der Jahren wurde sein Wissen um hinduistische sowie buddhistische Texte bereichert, was auch u.a. in einer Reise nach Indien (1911) erfolgte.Das Leitmotiv und der Kern dieses Werkes sind rund um das Konzept der Utopie gebaut und werden auch zum Anliegen der vorliegenden Arbeit.Erster Kapitel dieser Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit einer Analyse Kastaliens und dessen utopischen Zügen. Folgend wird das Glasperlenspiel selbst unter die Lupe genommen. Das dritte Kapitel wird dem Beziehung Schüler-Meister gewidmet.Gewiss ließ sich Hermann Hesse vom Orient inspirieren. „Das Glasperlenspiel“ ist ein komplexer Roman. Das vorliegende Magisterarbeit zeigt das utopisch-orientalische Aspekt dieses Werks.
