Skin anatomy of the aquatic caecillian Typhlonectes natans

Celem pracy było opisanie budowy anatomicznej skóry płaza beznogiego Typhlonectes natans. W tym celu dokonano pomiaru grubości naskórka i skóry właściwej oraz średnicy dwóch rodzajów gruczołów skórnych. Pobrano fragmenty skóry z 8 różnych części ciała zwierzęcia. Następnie przygotowano skrawki parafinowe, wybarwiono je trzema metodami histologicznymi, sfotografowano i przeprowadzono analizę obrazów. Otrzymane wyniki porównano z obecnym stanem wiedzy dotyczącym budowy skóry płazów, szczególnie z rzędu Apoda. Skóra badanego osobnika posiada budowę typową dla płazów: naskórek, błona podstawna, skóra właściwa i znajdujące się w niej gruczoły śluzowe i surowicze. Gruczoły rozmieszczone są dość równomiernie na całej powierzchni ciała. Analiza struktury naskórka, skóry właściwej i gruczołów wykazała statystycznie istotne różnice między różnymi okolicami ciała. Pomiary pokazały, że zarówno naskórek, jak i skóra właściwa są grubsze po grzbietowej stronie ciała. Ponadto, gruczoły śluzowe miały mniejszą średnicę od gruczołów surowiczych. Oba typy ww. gruczołów znajdują się we wszystkich okolicach ciała. Gruczołów surowiczych jest mniej niż śluzowych.

The aim of the work was to describe the anatomy of the skin of legless amphibian Typhlonectes natans. To achieve this, the measurement of the thickness of the epidermis and dermis and the diameter of the two types of skin glands were made. Samples of skin were taken from eight different parts of the animal body. The slides were stained with three histological methods, then the measurements were made on basis of photographed images. In addition, the results were compared with existing data on other types of amphibians, to draw some conclusions.The overall structure of the skin was similar to other amphibians; it the epidermis, the basal membrane, dermis and placed in the mucous glands and serous. The glands are distributed fairly evenly throughout the body. Analysis of the structure of the epidermis, the dermis and sebaceous showed a statistically significant differences between different parts of the body. Measurements showed that both the epidermis and dermis is thicker in the dorsal side of the body. In addition, it can be said that the mucous glands were smaller than serous glands. Both types of the above. glands are found in all parts of the body. Serous glands is less than the mucous.
