Press photography as an element of media coverage on the example of the covers of Tygodnik Ilustrowany “Za i Przeciw”.

Tematem mojej pracy magisterskiej jest analiza okładek Tygodnika Ilustrowanego „Za i Przeciw”. Praca na początku wprowadza ogólną historię prasy oraz kolejno fotografii, z wyraźnym wspomnieniem na fotografię prasową. Przed podjęciem analizy skupiam się na profilu i historii wydawnictwa powyższego czasopisma. Profil wydawnictwa PAX wskazuje na zróżnicowanie mojego poglądu. Fotografie publikowane na okładkach wyrażają religijny charakter, historia wydawcy zaś -jak podają źródła- wspomina o kolaboracji z ówczesnym komunizmem. Analiza okładek nie wprowadza żadnego zaskoczenia. Jednak utwierdza w przekonaniu o tym, że nie warto „oceniać książki po okładce”, bowiem przekaz, który pozornie może nam się podobać, może być w swym zamyśle utajony.

The main topic of the following thesis is the analysis of the covers of Tygodnik Ilustrowany “Za i Przeciw”. At the begining, the work introduces the general history of press and then describes photography especially press photography. Before starting analysis, I focus on the profile and the history of publication of the magazine mentioned. The profile of the PAX publishing house indicates the diversity of my view. Photograps that were published on the covers express a religious character. However, as the sources suggest, the publisher’s history mentions the collaboration with contemporary communism. Covers analysis does not introduce any surprise, but it confirms the belief that it is not worth ‘jugging a bokk by its cover”, because a message that we may seem to like may be implicit in our intention.
