The Angels and Demons various feminine pictures in literature of polish positivism and modernism

The thesis presents the characters of women possessing simultaneously the demonic an angelic features. It focuses on the topic of an identity and persistence of women, trying to answer among other the following questions: “who were the women at the turn of two literary époques: realism and modernism” [called in Poland “pozytywizm” and “Młoda Polska”] and “what specific features did they possess”. In the particular chapters, there were respectively presented: the definitions of an angel and a demon, the image of fair sex in the two consecutive centuries: XIXth and XXth. The analysis of the pieces of literature didn’t provide the exact distinction of the women’s characteristics as it was planned at the beginning of the thesis. As a result, they cannot be categorized as good or bad, angelic or demonic. Being stigmatized by the society, the characters can not discover their real nature. The change of this image came with the turn of the centuries. Simultaneously, the nature of a woman still can not be defined as good or evil. The combination of the two natures makes that women’s liberated sex is so beautiful.

Niniejsza praca ukazuje postaci kobiet o cechach anielskich i demonicznych.Skupia się na zagadnieniach tożsamości postrzegania kobiet i próbuje odpowiedzieć na pytania: kim były i jakie szczególne cechy posiadały kobiety z przełomu dwóch epok literackich: pozytywizmu i Młodej Polski. W poszczególnych rozdziałach przedstawione zostały m. in. definicja anioła i diabła, wizerunek płci pięknej w XIX i XX wieku.Utwory, które były analizowane podczas pisania pracy ukazują demoniczne i anielskie strony kobiet. Posumowanie jest stwierdzeniem,iż nie ma miejsca na łatwe podziały takie jak zło-dobro, demoniczność-anielskość. Bohaterkom trudno jest, w obliczu napiętnowania ze strony społeczeństwa, rozpoznać swoją prawdziwą naturę. Dopiero przełom wieków doprowadził do zmiany tego wizerunku. Jedoznacznie nie da się określić natury kobiety , czy jest ona dobra czy zła. Kombinacja tych dwóch natur sprawia, że płeć wyemancypowana jest tak piękna.
