Światy możliwe wykreowane w Opowieściach z Narnii C.S. Lewisa i Władcy Pierścieni J.R.R. Tolkiena

Tematem niniejszej pracy magisterskiej jest analiza światów możliwych stworzonych przez J.R.R. Tolkiena oraz C.S. Lewisa. Analiza została dokonana na podstawie Opowieści z Narnii i Władcy Pierścieni, teorii światów możliwych oraz idei, które Tolkien i Lewis mieli na temat światów fantasy. Praca składa się z trzech rozdziałów. Pierwszy poświęcony jest aspektom z życia Lewisa i Tolkiena, które wpłynęły na ich twórczość. Drugi i trzeci rozdział poświęcony jest jednej z wyżej wymienionych książek; elementy wzięte pod uwagę to Narnia i Śródziemie jako światy fikcyjne, bohaterowie, symbole i motywy, które są ważnym elementem tych światów przedstawionych. Kolejne aspekty to styl pisarski, który wynika z przekonań Lewisa i Tolkiena na temat książek fantasy oraz cechy z teorii światów możliwych, które można zauważyć w każdym z utworów.Analiza Opowieści z Narnii i Władcy Pierścieni, pokazuje jak bardzo podobne światy wykreowali Tolkien i Lewis. Stworzyli oni swoje powieści zgodnie z koncepcjami, które mieli na temat alternatywnych rzeczywistości. Narnia i Środziemie to bogate i wciągające światy fantasy, które przyciągają czytelnika magią, niesamowitymi przygodami, dzielnymi bohaterami oraz specyficzną atmosferą. Każdy element świata przedstawionego ma swój cel, aby przekazać ponadczasowe wartości i prawdy uniwersalne.

The purpose of this thesis is an analysis of the fictional worlds created by C.S. Lewis and by J.R.R. Tolkien. The analysis is based on The Chronicles of Narnia and The Lord of the Rings and Tolkien’s and Lewis’s ideas on fairy stories. The thesis consists of three chapters. The first one deals with the biographical aspects of Tolkien’s and Lewis’s friendship. The second and third chapters are devoted to one novel each. The main points of focus are Narnia and Middle-earth as fictional worlds, characters, symbols and themes that are important elements of the alternative realities. Next, attention is directed to the style of writing, which expresses Tolkien’s and Lewis’s ideas on Secondary Worlds and the features of the theory of possible worlds that are examined in The Chronicles of Narnia and The Lord of the Rings respectively. The conclusion of the thesis is that Tolkien and Lewis have created similar worlds according to the concepts they had on fairy stories. Narnia and Middle-earth are rich and engrossing fictional worlds that attract the reader with magic, amazing adventures, brave heroes and specific atmosphere. Each aspect that is put inside has its purpose to convey universal truths and timeless values.
